Memory Care communities (often incorporated as separate care units of Assisted Living communities) for people with certain forms of dementia or Alzheimer’s are available. With memory-impaired residents, it is important to have 24-hour support and programs to ensure their safety and quality of life. Generally, the residents live in semi-private apartments and have structured activities delivered by trained staff members. These living environments have secured or locked areas to ensure no one wanders off. Many times, within the secured areas, residents have access to outdoor walking paths or gardens. Usually memory care entitles a separate endorsement or special care disclosure. Residents in Memory Care communities typically need assistance with two or more ADLs.
