WASHINGTON, Ill. — Good Neighbor Care® of Eugene, OR will join city officials and the Washington Chamber of Commerce to officially break ground for a new 62-unit independent and assisted living community for seniors on July 22 at 4:00 p.m. The ceremony will be held at the site of the new building near St. Claire Crossing, just north of U.S. Route 24 at N. Cummings Lane on lots two and three of St. Claire Court.
When completed in April or May 2009, the new community will be managed by Good Neighbor Care (GNC) and will offer spacious apartments with 10-foot ceilings, kitchenettes, private baths and wall-to-wall carpeting. Senior residents of the new building will also enjoy a fitness center with spa, a café/ice cream parlor, a movie theater, an all-season porch and other amenities.
The Washington community is patterned after two nearly identical upscale retirement communities currently operating in Rockford and Sycamore and another that will hold its grand opening in Sterling in mid-July. When this building—and another identical community in Pekin—are up and running, they will bring the total number of GNC-managed communities in Illinois to 21.
Established in 1987 in Eugene, OR, GNC originally managed a small memory care community for residents who suffered from memory loss as a result of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Today, the company manages 49 communities offering independent and assisted living and memory care services to seniors.
The new community in Washington will provide 25 to 35 new jobs for the area.
